Google is bringing the “thinking” feature to its artificial intelligence model Gemini with the 2.0 update. Developed in response to OpenAI’s o1 and DeepSeek’s R1 features, the feature will enable the artificial intelligence model to respond to the desired command by dividing it into parts. 

The Italian Data Protection Authority imposed a nationwide access ban on the Chinese artificial intelligence model DeepSeek. The application was banned and a new investigation was launched after the company’s responses to the data collection processes were found to be insufficient. 

OpenAI announced ChatGPT Gov, specially developed for US Government Agencies. In the statement made by the company, it was emphasised that artificial intelligence will meet security and compliance requirements while increasing efficiency and productivity. ChatGPT Gov aims to serve the public interest through responsible processing of sensitive data. 

The EU Artificial Intelligence Act’s provisions prohibiting the use of “risky” artificial intelligence will enter into force on 2 February. Accordingly, penalties of up to 35 million € and 7% of annual revenue are stipulated for the use of artificial intelligences that are considered risky. 

Ernst & Young announced that it will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 as part of its goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. According to the report, Ernst & Young, which has reduced its emissions by 40% since 2019, increased its use of renewable energy to 88% and achieved a 42% reduction in emissions from travel.  

Independent global energy organisation Ember reported that Turkey increased its solar capacity to 19.6 GW in 2024. It was stated that the capacity increase, which was 100% in 2018-2022, was 102% in 2022-2024. Thus, Turkey’s 2025 target was exceeded in 2024. 


🏛️⚙️🌿 DEVELOPMENTS FROM PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS REGARDING TECHNOLOGY AND SUSTAINABILITY

The Directorate of Communications published the 160th and 161st issues of Disinformation Bulletin. Accordingly, the allegation that the UK will require visas from Turkish citizens holding diplomatic passports does not reflect the truth. 

The Personal Data Protection Authority published a public announcement on the issues to be considered regarding the standard contracts to be used in the transfer of personal data abroad. In this context, explanations regarding the notification process of standard contracts and important points identified in the contracts examined were included.  

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources organised competitions for 6 Renewable Resource Areas allocated for solar energy. 146 applications were received from 67 companies and investors were allocated a total connection capacity of 800 MWe. In his statement, the Minister stated that 1.5 billion kWh of electricity will be generated annually, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 600 thousand households.
