Microsoft announced that it will invest 80 billion $ in AI-focused data centers in 2025. The company aims to train artificial intelligence models and deploy cloud-based applications with these centers. 

Nvidia completed the acquisition of Run:ai, which develops software that supports artificial intelligence systems, for 700 million $. Founded in 2018, Run:ai attracted attention with its technologies that increase GPU efficiency, and has received 118 million $ in investment to date. 

Samsung has started testing a satellite messaging feature that will facilitate communication in emergencies. This technology, called “Satellite Networks”, aims to prevent communication interruptions in natural disasters 

China is preparing to build the world’s largest hydroelectric power plant in Tibet. The project is expected to generate 300 billion kWh of energy annually, meeting the needs of about 300 million people. 

The South African Supreme Court has canceled the government’s plan for a new 1,500 MW coal-fired power plant stating that the plan was unlawful for failing to consider the potential impact on children’s rights. 

Apple has denied the allegations in a lawsuit claiming that Siri recorded conversations without user consent; nonetheless, it has agreed to settle by paying 95 million $. The lawsuit also alleged that the recordings were shared with advertising companies targeting consumers with product ads. 


🏛️⚙️🌿 DEVELOPMENTS FROM PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS REGARDING TECHNOLOGY AND SUSTAINABILITY

The Directorate of Communication published the 157th and 158th issues of Disinformation Bulletin. Accordingly, the images that were shared claiming to show fishing close to the shore in Bosphorus and the claims that green and gray passport holders will have to pay 7 € for their travels to Europe.

The Data Protection Authority published the Guideline on the Transfer of Personal Data Abroad in order to clarify the uncertainties regarding the implementation of Article 9 of The Personal Data Protection Law regulating the transfer of personal data abroad.  

With the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette dated 08.01.2025 and numbered 32776, the Directorate of Cyber Security (“the Directorate”) was established. The Directorate will determine policies and strategies, prepare action plans and carry out legislative work to ensure cyber security. 

The Ministry of Trade and TurkStat, through their joint effort, published the 2024 data by province, revealing that goods exports reached 262 billion $, marking a 2.5% increase. It was noted that Istanbul ranked first with 56 billion 837 million $.
