Meta announced that it will use users’ public posts and interactions with Meta AI, including Facebook and Instagram, to train AI models in the European Union. The company will send users informative notices and allow users to opt out of data usage.
The Personal Data Protection Authority published its activity report for 2024. According to the report, 8,275 applications were made in 2024, a total of 552 million TRY of administrative fines were imposed, and the most applied subject was the unlawful processing of personal data.
The European Union announced the AI Continent Action Plan in order to compete in the field of artificial intelligence. The plan aims to support the sector with ” AI factories” and data infrastructures. The EU defines factories as “large facilities that house the state-of-the-art chips needed to train and develop the most advanced artificial intelligence models”.
The Climate Law Draft, which was being discussed in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, was withdrawn from the General Assembly to be discussed again in the commission. Making a statement on the issue, deputy Leyla Şahin Usta stated that the draft law will be discussed more comprehensively due to misunderstandings in the society and the need for contribution.
Google is facing a class action lawsuit in the UK worth approximately 6 million Euros, with complaints from British advertisers alleging that they have been harmed by the company’s anti-competitive actions. The lawsuit also alleges that Google infringed competition by forcing phone manufacturers to load its own search engine and web browser.

The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency issued a press release on the “Communique on Banks’ Calculation of Green Asset Ratio” and the “Guideline on the Management of Financial Risks Related to Climate”. The statement includes new regulations for banks to develop sustainability-oriented financial structures, calculate green asset ratios and manage climate risks.
The Personal Data Protection Authority published the “Good Practice Guide on the Protection of Personal Data in the Payment and Electronic Money Sector”. The guide, published in cooperation with the Association of Payment and Electronic Money Institutions of Turkey, contains guiding principles for data controllers in the sector on the issues of personal data processing, transfer, security and rights of data subjects.
The Ministry of Commerce published figures on consumer complaints in e-commerce. While a total of 93 million TRY administrative fines were imposed on 67 companies during the inspections carried out in the last 6 months, failure to use the right of withdrawal, non-refund and delivery problems are among the most common complaint issues.
With the protocol signed between the Ministry of Trade and the OECD, the operating period of the OECD Centre in Istanbul was extended to 2029. Serving as a regional centre, this structure plays a role in economic cooperation and global integration between the OECD and regions such as Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa.
